• One of the largest service industry, tourism in India accounts for 6.23% to the national GDP and 8.78% of      the total employment in India.

• Annual growth rate from approximately US$100 billion in 2008 is set to increase to US$275.5 billion by 2018. It means growth of 9.4% annually.

• Top four states welcoming tourists are Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.

• The nodal agency, which formulates national policies and programmes pertaining to tourism in India, is the  Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.

• The Ministry of Tourism is also engaged in promotion of tourism in India and maintains the "Incredible India" campaign.

• According to one estimate, tourism revenues are expected to surge by 42% from 2007 to 2017.
Recently held Commonwealth Games in Delhi, 2010 significantly boosted tourism in India.
