Trinetra Ganesh Temple, is located in the city of Sawai Madhopur, in Rajasthan. The Ranthambore Fort located here, houses the Trinetra Ganesh Temple. It lies at a distance of 12 kms from the main town. It is one of the oldest temples in the country and probably the only one that has the presence of his entire family, including the idols of his wives, Ridhi and Sidhi, and their sons, Subh and Labh. The Ranthambore Wildlife Sanctuary is also located here. The temple was constructed by the then royal King Hammir Dev Chauhan in the year 1300. The idol is Trinetra, meaning it has three eyes. 5 aartis are sung in the entire day, at 6 am, 9 am, noon, 6.30 pm and 8 pm. The special day of Lord Ganesh, Wednesday, is the most frequented by devotees, and a special aarti takes place for the deity. Ganesh Chathurthi is celebrated here in the most grand and pompous way. The fort’s premises also hold some ruins, Badal Mahal, Phansi Ghar, Dhula Mahal and Hameer’s court. The other side of the fort has deteriorated from years together, so it has become a dense jungle and a natural habitat to wild animals and birds.
Interesting Facts and Trivia About Trinetra Ganesh Temple
- The construction of this temple was the result of a war. In the year 1299, a war raged between King Hammir and Allaudin Khilji, who was the second king to rule under the Khilji bloodline.
- The godowns of the fort were used to stock food grains and other essential items. The prolonged war exhausted all these supplies. King Hammir, who was a staunch devotee of Lord Ganesh, continued worshipping him, even during these trying times.
- Happy by his devotion, Lord Ganesh blessed the king by appearing in his dreams. The next morning the three-eyed idol of the deity was found inscribed in one of the walls and the godowns were miraculously filled with all food grains. The following year, the king built a temple in the premises in honor of the Lord.
- The temple also houses an idol of the Lord’s vehicle, his mushak, the mouse.
- Out of the four gateways of the temple, only one is still standing erect, Gate Mishradhara.
- All wishes asked by one’s true heart are fulfilled here.
- It is said that all wedding invitations from nearby places are first sent here, for the deity to bless the new couple.
The fort is a protector of the realm and a real show of prowess and might. Trinetra Ganesh Temple is a famous pilgrimage site and is always frequented by devotees.
